The thing about new babies is that they invite many gifts. And while some of these gifts are useful, often parents are barraged with items they will rarely, if ever, use, or will only find useful for a short time. I like to give useful gifts, and I like to give gifts that last. More importantly, I like to give gifts that help parents parent.
In my years of experience in the birth community, I have discovered that it is critical to have large, good-quality swaddling blankets for those times when baby is crying uncontrollably and needs swaddling and soothing. The Happiest Baby on the Block method of baby calming, developed by Dr. Harvey Karp, recommends using a swaddling blanket that is larger than those available in most retail stores. Unfortunately, most swaddling blankets available on the market are so small that most infants outgrow them within a couple of months.
In addition to the many services I provide to new families, I have created a line of swaddling blankets called Little Monster Blankets. These blankets are large (approx. 45"x45"), strong, useful and affordable. They will last for years to come and are useful not only for infants but also for toddlers and beyond. While there are other large swaddling blankets on the market, most are far more expensive than Little Monster Blankets and offer fewer fabric options. I take great pride in picking out a variety of fabrics so that parents can choose something totally baby, not so baby, or "we're in denial about having a baby."
